Zakir Hussain hospitalised

According to a report published by PTI, Zakir has been admitted to the ICU. He was hospitalised after experiencing heart-related problems, his friend and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia confirmed to the news agency on Sunday.

One source close to Zakir shared that the 73-year-old US-based musician had been having blood pressure issues.

"He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem for the last week. He is unwell and admitted in the ICU right now. We all are worried about the situation," Chaurasia told PTI.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that he had been hospitalised in a hospital in San Francisco hospital and is being treated for 'serious' health ailments. At this moment, his family is seeking prayers and blessings from all for his speedy recovery. Any other details about his health condition are not out yet.

Zakir Hussain is India’s most famous tabla player. He is a recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Additionally, he is a composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor. Born to tabla maestro, Alla Rakha and Bavi Begum in Mahim, Mumbai on March 9, 1951, Zakir Hussain had an inclination to play the tabla at a very young age. 

He learned to play the mridang (a classical percussion instrument) from his father when he was just 3 and began performing at concerts by the age of 12. He has collaborated with several Western musicians, including his partnership with the legendary pop band The Beatles.  In 2024, the tabla maestro made history at the 66th Grammy Awards, becoming the first Indian to win three trophies in a single night.
