Storm delivers record snowfall at MSP blizzard and winter storm
More than a foot of snow has fallen across much of central and northern Minnesota so far.

It turns out our big sloppy March storm set a new daily snowfall record at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Sunday — a heavy, wet 8.2 inches. The previous record for March 24 was 6.8 inches set in 1996.

Snowfall reports are still trickling in Monday afternoon. Overall, about 6 to 12 inches of snow fell across the greater Twin Cities area. Snowfall totals up north have exceeded a foot in many locations.

Several more inches of snow and high winds are still to come across northern Minnesota.

You can see on the map at the top of this post projected snowfall totals from 7 a.m. Monday through 7 p.m. Tuesday. So part of this snow has already fallen.

1251 PM CDT Mon Mar 25 2024 ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Southern Lake and Southern Cook Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time period for blizzard conditions are expected late this afternoon to mid this evening.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...In Minnesota, North Cass, South Cass, Crow Wing, Northern Aitkin, South Aitkin, Carlton and South St. Louis and Pine Counties. In Wisconsin, Douglas County. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fond du Lac Band and the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake, East Lake, Lena Lake and, Hinckley areas.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

In the Twin Cities, rain will continue Monday but change back to snow Tuesday. We could pick up another inch or two on the backside of the system on Tuesday.
