Can Oleksandr Usyk repeat May's tremendous triumph over Tyson Fury, or will 'The Gypsy King' become a three-time heavyweight champion? The Sporting News will provide live updates from the undercard and round-by-round scoring on this career-defining main e

In the tradition of heavyweight boxing’s greatest rematches, Oleksandr Usyk seeks to repeat his epic triumph over Tyson Fury, who is determined to avenge his only career defeat to the Ukrainian wizard on December 21.

The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, takes place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh and will be broadcast by DAZN.

Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) outpointed Fury at the same venue in May, dropping “The Gypsy King” in the ninth round before securing a 12-round split decision win.

The super-skilled 37-year-old became the first fighter to win the undisputed heavyweight championship since Lennox Lewis, who recently visited the champion’s camp.

“It was great,” Usyk told The Daily Mirror. “Once I watched his fight on TV. Now, Lennox Lewis is in my camp, watching my sparring.

"I said: ‘Wow, hey Lennox. You miss boxing, you miss preparing?’ [He said.] ‘Yeah, of course,’”

Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) has an excellent record in rematches.

He won a controversial decision over John McDermott and dominated the second fight to win by TKO. Fury also defeated Derek Chisora on points in their first encounter before scoring stoppages in fights two and three.

And when Deontay Wilder benefitted from a contentious draw in 2019, Fury dominated the remainder of the trilogy by scoring two knockout wins.

“It’s always round 13 in rematches, I’ve had plenty of them,” said Fury in an interview with Sky Sports.

“I want him to be the best he’s ever been. I’m just over 20 stone (over 280 pounds) … more power in the punches because when a 20-stone man hits you in the jaw, compared to a man at 17 [stone], it’s a bit different.

“I’m gonna beat him that bad on Saturday, he ain’t gonna want [a third fight].”

The Sporting News will provide live updates from the undercard and round-by-round scoring on this career-defining main event.

Usyk vs. Fury 2 live updates, highlights, and commentary

2:35 p.m. ET | 11:35 a.m. PT | 7:35 p.m. GMT: We're through six rounds and it's a brutal affair. McGregor has significant swelling under both eyes, while Lowe has cuts above both of his and is oozing blood. McGregor, the Scotsman, looks to be ahead on the scoring due to superior accuracy and sharpness.

2:20 p.m. ET | 11:20 a.m. PT | 7:20 p.m. GMT: We're three rounds into this 10-rounder and it's been very entertaining. Lowe is the bigger and stronger man in the ring, but McGregor is scoring the more eye-catching punches. Perfectly poised.

2:12 p.m. ET | 11:12 a.m. PT | 7:12 p.m. GMT: Excellent first round. Both men stun each other with flush left hooks. In a grudge fight, these two are being very aggressive and leaving a lot of gaps.

2:04 p.m. ET | 11:04 a.m. PT | 7:04 p.m. GMT: An intriguing Scotland vs. England clash next as Lee McGregor takes on Isaac Lowe at featherweight. This fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.

THE WINNER BY 10-ROUND UNANIMOUS - BUT RAZOR-CLOSE - DECISION IS PETER McGRAIL. EDWARDS' TEAM IS BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED AFTER PUTTING FORTH A GALLANT EFFORT IN DEFEAT. OFFICIAL SCORES ARE 96-95, 96-94, 96-94.

1:55 p.m. ET | 10:55 a.m. PT | 6:55 p.m. GMT: It's been the fight of the night so far and both men believe they've won at the end of 10 rounds. We go to the scorecards.

1:44 p.m. ET | 10:44 a.m. PT | 6:44 p.m. GMT: Edwards is now putting forth a sustained body attack and it appears to be troubling McGrail in round eight. It's been a high-contact and evenly contested fight and the last two rounds could be crucial in the scoring.

1:37 p.m. ET | 10:37 a.m. PT | 6:37 p.m. GMT: McGrail, with the blood running down his right cheek, appears to have the slightest of advantages but nothing resembling a breakthrough. Given that he took this fight on five days' notice, Edwards is performing brilliantly through six rounds.

1:25 p.m. ET | 10:25 a.m. PT | 6:25 p.m. GMT: Terrific and evenly contested action so far. Lefty McGrail sustains a cut above his right eye from a clash of heads, which is a common occurrence when a southpaw faces an orthodox opponent (power hands on the same side).

1:10 p.m. ET | 10:10 a.m. PT | 6:10 p.m. GMT: Next up is Peter McGrail against Rhys Edwards at super featherweight. Edwards steps in at very late notice to replace Dennis McCann, who was removed from the card after failing a drug test. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

THE WINNER IS LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT LEFTY DANIEL LAPIN, WHO EXTENDS HIS UNBEATEN RUN TO 11-0 (4 KOs). THE OFFICIAL SCORES ARE 100-90, 99-91, 99-91. COLIN SUSTAINS HIS FIRST PRO DEFEAT, DROPPING TO 14-1 (4 KOs).

1:03 p.m. ET | 10:03 a.m. PT | 6:03 p.m. GMT: This 10-round light heavyweight fight is over. If the judges have found a way to give Colin a round, then it'll be a big surprise.

12:42 p.m. ET | 9:42 a.m. PT | 5:42 p.m. GMT: Lapin stuns his man with a sharp right hook count punch in round eight. It was an excellent shot, but the Ukrainian didn't follow up effectively with a second phase of attack. Regardless, he's in cruise control and winning this fight by a mile.

12:42 p.m. ET | 9:42 a.m. PT | 5:42 p.m. GMT: Colin is trying to get inside on his longer opponent but he just can't do it. Lapin effectively controls distance and scores well with the lead hand. It's likely a shutout after five rounds.

12:28 p.m. ET | 9:28 a.m. PT | 5:28 p.m. GMT: Southpaw Lapin has a five-inch height advantage and he's using it already. A nice left hand rocked Colin in the opening round. The Frenchman has his work cut out for him here.

12:20 p.m. ET | 9:20 a.m. PT | 5:20 p.m. GMT: The next fight of the night is an intriguing light heavyweight collision between Ukrainian star Daniel Lapin and Frenchman Dylan Colin. Both fighters are unbeaten.

HEAVYWEIGHT STAR ANDRII NOVYSTSKY WINS A 10-ROUND UNANIMOUS DECISION AND IMPROVES TO 14-0. OFFICIAL SCORES ARE 100-90, 100-90, 98-92.

12:10 p.m. ET | 9:10 a.m. PT | 5:10 p.m. GMT: Novytskyi closed well in a drab and listless fight. He should win decisively enough on points and extend his unbeaten record.

12:01 p.m. ET | 9:01 a.m. PT | 5:01 p.m. GMT: Ramirez came through with his best round in the eighth, scoring well to the body and the head. Novytskyi has been disappointing here, even if he is ahead in the fight.

11:55 a.m. ET | 8:55 a.m. PT | 4:55 p.m. GMT: Six rounds gone and the action is pedestrian. Novytskyi is in control but he lacks ambition. Ramirez is just following his man around and occasionally lands the odd eye-catching single shot. He needs to go a lot more to turn this around.

11:40 a.m. ET | 8:40 a.m. PT | 4:40 p.m. GMT: We're three rounds in and Novytskyi is in command. He's producing the cleaner work and Ramirez is doing very little to discourage him.

11:20 a.m. ET | 8:20 a.m. PT | 4:20 p.m. GMT: Next up is a heavyweight attraction between Ukraine's Andrii Novytskyi and Edgar Ramirez. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

THE WINNER OF THIS SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT BOUT IS UNBEATEN PROSPECT MOHAMMED ALAKEL. THE RESULT IS A UNANIMOUS DECISION WITH ALL THREE JUDGES SCORING THE BOUT 60-53.

11:15 a.m. ET | 8:15 a.m. PT | 4:15 p.m. GMT: The fight is over and we've gone the six-round distance. Alakel turned in a tidy, disciplined and impressive showing. He's undoubtedly won every round.

11:05 a.m. ET | 8:05 a.m. PT | 4:05 p.m. GMT: We're three rounds down and Alakel is having a field day. Looking even more impressive than he did in his debut, the Saudi Arabian prospect has won every round and scored a right-hand knockdown in the second.

10:50 a.m. ET | 7:50 a.m. PT | 3:30 p.m. GMT: The first fight is about to get underway in Riyadh. It's a super bantamweight bout between Joe Gallagher-trained Mohammed Alakel and journeyman Joshua Ocampo.

10:30 a.m. ET | 7:30 a.m. PT | 3:30 p.m. GMT: It should also be remembered that Usyk is not only the best heavyweight in the world, but he's also the finest pound-for-pound fighter in the world today. The Ukrainian hero holds the No. 1 position with both The Sporting News and The Ring.

10 a.m. ET | 7 a.m. PT | 3 p.m. GMT: If Usyk were to repeat his epic triumph over Fury, then he'd confirm his status as the finest heavyweight of this generation. That would be two wins over Fury, two wins over Anthony Joshua, and a stoppage win over the reigning IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois.

9:45 a.m. ET | 6:45 a.m. PT | 2:45 p.m. GMT: If Fury avenges his lone professional defeat to Usyk, then he would join Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Michael Moorer as boxing's only three-time heavyweight champions.

Note: Holyfield holds the record as the sport's only four-time heavyweight king.

9:30 a.m. ET | 6:30 a.m. PT | 2:30 p.m. GMT: Just an update on the official weights for tonight's main event. Tyson Fury weighed in at a career-heavy 281 pounds, which is 19 pounds up on his number for the first fight. Usyk also came in the heaviest of his career at 226 pounds, which is two-and-a-half pounds up from fight one.

It must be said that both fighters were fully clothed on the scales. It's guesswork, but Fury, who was wearing several layers, is probably around the 275 mark, whereas Usyk will be on or around his habitual 221.

9:15 a.m. ET | 6:15 a.m. PT | 2:15 p.m. GMT: We're in the countdown to the undercard getting underway at the Kingdom Arena. Eight bouts from a variety of different weight classes will precede the historic rematch between unified champ Oleksandr Usyk and former king Tyson Fury.

9 a.m. ET | 6 a.m. PT | 2 p.m. GMT: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the rematch between unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and the former king Tyson Fury. We're in the countdown to the undercard getting underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
