Tuberculosis
Contact tracing is currently underway after a contagious form of tuberculosis was discovered by UC Davis officials. The university is taking necessary steps to directly contact individuals who may have been exposed to the disease. Despite this, the exposure risk to the general community is considered to be low.
What is Tuberculosis?
Tuberculosis, commonly known as TB, is a bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs. It can be spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms of TB include coughing, chest pain, and coughing up blood. While TB is a serious condition, it can be treated and cured with the appropriate medications.
Prevention and Treatment
Preventative measures for tuberculosis include practicing good hygiene, avoiding close contact with infected individuals, and getting vaccinated if necessary. Treatment for TB typically involves a combination of antibiotics taken over a period of several months. It is important for individuals who may have been exposed to TB to seek medical attention promptly to prevent further spread of the disease.
