Jake Paul is set to take on Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in what shapes as the YouTube star's most legitimate fight to date.

Despite boasting a 4-0 professional record, none of Paul's opponents to date have come from a legitimate boxing background.

Paul defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and former NBA guard Nate Robinson in his first two pro bouts, before notching subsequent wins against former MMA fighters Ben Askren and Tyrone Woodley, both veteran fighters who were not trained boxers.

Despite a series of trash-talking tweets indicating he wasn't interested in taking on Fury last week, the fight between the pair was confirmed for December 10, this year.

Tommy Fury will come into the fight with a 7-0 record, including four knockouts, having returned to the sport after taking a break in 2019 to appear on reality program 'Love Island'.

Fury featured on the undercard of Paul's bout against Woodley back in August, defeating Anthony Taylor.

In a post on Instagram confirming the fight, Paul took a potshot at the younger Fury, saying he ought to stop living off his Love Island partner Molly Hague and intentionally calling him 'Timmy'.

“It’s finally official. Timothy had no choice but to sign the contract so he could finally pay his bar tabs, afford a shirt for the club, and stop living off Molly (Hague, fellow Love Island star).

“December 18 in Tampa Bay I’m changing this w***er’s name to Tommy Fumbles and celebrating with Tom Brady.

“Pucker up Timmy … it’s time to kiss your last name and your family’s boxing legacy goodbye.”

Fury signed a two-fight deal with US network Showtime thanks to his early success in the ring, despite never facing truly elite opposition.

Story continues

The showdown against Paul in Florida will be his second fight in the United States, following his victory over Taylor earlier this year.

Hate to admit it but I’m hyped for #PaulFury. @jakepaul is an obnoxious, if not half decent amateur, against a proper boxer who hasn’t shown much beyond his surname. Neither are excellent at their craft but this could be a fun fight with the NFT shilling clown finally KO’d.

I remember when PPV was only for the HUGE fights. Fat chance I’m paying to see this, better value for money down the local amateur boxing gym in a sparring session. For the sake of the sport, I hope fury put Paul in hospital https://t.co/mO5bllP7UE

Promoter details Tyson Fury's next step after Wilder trilogy

Meanwhile, Tyson Fury's promoter Bob Arum has revealed what the next 18 months will likely play out for the hulking heavyweight champion after his trilogy victory over Deontay Wilder.

Fury will take on a British opponent before a potentially massive unification bout against either Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua, Arum says.

What loomed as an all-British showdown had a spanner thrown in the works back in September when Ukrainian Usyk stunned Joshua to earn a unanimous points victory and the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.

With an Usyk/Joshua rematch on the cards, the legendary promoter Arum said Fury would likely take on the winner of that bout roughly this time next year.

In the meantime, Fury could potentially take on fellow Brit Dillian Whyte in April next year.

"Joshua and Usyk, I think they're going to wait until April 4," Arum told FightHub.

"I think Fury will fight again in March or April. Then we can look to a September or October match for a unification."

Joshua's resume has taken a hit thanks to his 2019 loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, as well as the recent upset against Usyk.

Although Joshua was able to regain his titles in his rematch with Ruiz, Arum said he was leaning towards Usyk being the one to face Fury next year.

Arum took a potshot at Joshua, suggesting he had a 'suspect chin'.

"Eddie [Hearn] thought Joshua wouldn't be amenable to a step aside and would want to do the rematch," Arum said.

"Which is sort of stupidity on his part because no way is he going to beat Usyk in his next fight no matter what new strategy he deploys. The only way you're going to beat Usyk is to pin him and corner him with your high weight and pressure him.

"But then he can unload against you. Now, a Tyson Fury can absorb that, as we all know, but Anthony Joshua has a suspect chin."
