In Chile, one of the leading exporters of commodities such as copper, lithium, pulp, and fruit, port workers initiated protests on Thursday, causing disruptions in the loading and unloading processes at ports. The protests began as a part of a 24-hour strike action called by the UPC and FTPC unions at 8 a.m. local time.

The Ventanas port has confirmed the suspension of activities due to the union members' strike. Reports and television footage highlighted workers obstructing roads near Valparaiso, the largest port, and similar actions in Talcahuano. The unions' demands include addressing safety concerns and the impact of layoffs at coal-handling facilities due to the transition from thermal power. The strike serves as a potential precursor to further actions if the grievances are not addressed.
