DodgersBlue Jays series preview pitching matchups TV info more
The Dodgers head to Toronto to play the Blue Jays for a three-game weekend series at Rogers Centre. Here is information on the series and pitching matchups, plus how to watch.

The Dodgers’ second interleague series of 2024 takes them to Toronto for the first time in eight years, facing the Blue Jays this weekend at Rogers Centre in a three-game series beginning Friday night.

Shohei Ohtani, who leads the majors with 14 doubles and 21 extra-base hits, has nine extra-base hits (five doubles, three homers, a triple) in 12 career starts at Rogers Centre, hitting .326/.466/.674 in Toronto. He also has ... extra-base hits in his last five games.

This time, unlike in December, Ohtani actually was a plane to Toronto.

The Dodgers list TBA as a starter for Sunday’s series finale in Toronto. That’s because James Paxton was pushed to Monday in Phoenix on five days rest after his Tuesday outing in Washington D.C.

“We’ve had a lot of talks with James leading up to him signing with us, and also having him,” manager Dave Roberts told reporters in Washington on Tuesday. “Having that time in between to recover is sort of where he feels he’s best suited, as opposed to going every fifth or sixth day.”

2016 was the last time the Dodgers played in Toronto, taking two of three games from May 6-8, during which then-Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner homered and had three hits during the series. Turner this year has mostly been the Blue Jays designated hitter, plus a smattering of third base and first base. The 39-year-old is still hitting, at .324/.416/.514 with eight doubles, two home runs, and a 172 wRC+.

The only current Dodgers who were active with the team in 2016 are Austin Barnes, Kiké Hernández, and Chris Taylor, but in June 2016 Barnes was in Triple-A Oklahoma City and Taylor was acquired from the Mariners six weeks after Dodgers were in Toronto. Hernández did play one game in that series, grounding out as a pinch-hitter in the middle game, and played the final two innings in left field.

The Dodgers all-time in interleague play are 15-9 against the Blue Jays, including 8-4 in Toronto. The Jays won two of three games at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles last July, with two of the games needing extra innings to decide.
