frozen waffles recalled for listeria risk from many major retailers
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Many major retail stores, including Walmart and Target, are recalling multiple varieties of frozen waffles manufactured by TreeHouse Foods, Inc. for a potential listeria outbreak.
Listeria infection can cause fatal infections in children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Symptoms can range from high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, according to WIAT.
Those symptoms can become evident quickly or up to 10 weeks after consuming contaminated food, CBS reports.
TreeHouse has said there are currently no confirmed illnesses and people should check to see if they have recalled waffles in the freezer. If anyone has the recalled item, they should throw them away or return them to the store they bought them at.
The issue was discovered through a routine test at the company’s manufacutring plant, TreeHouse said.
