Nick Paul heading to Florida - North Bay News
The Tampa Bay Lightning have added another North Bay Battalion alum; this time for their quest to win a third straight Stanley Cup.
The Lightning acquired longtime Ottawa Senators forward Nick Paul for Mathieu Joseph and a fourth-round pick in 2024 prior to the March 21 NHL trade deadline.
If you recall, the Lightning acquired Barclay Goodrow at the trade deadline in 2020 before going on to win a pair of Stanley Cups with the Bolts.
With those wins, Goodrow became the first Battalion alum to win hockey's Holy Grail.
Goodrow left the Lightning as a free agent this summer.
As part of the Paul for Joseph deal, the Sens will retain 44.5 per cent of Paul's remaining salary for 2021-22.
The 27-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and carries a cap hit of $1.35 million for the season.
Paul has 11 goals and seven assists in 59 games so far this season for the Sens, his seventh with the team.

Paul was drafted by the Dallas Stars organization in the fourth round (No. 101 overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft and his rights were traded to the Senators in 2014 as part of the Jason Spezza trade.
The former Battalion star made his NHL debut during the 2015-16 campaign.
Paul has won both a World Junior and a World Championship gold medal for Team Canada in 2015 and in 2021 respectively.
