Malcolm In The Middle | Four episode sequel mini series in the works
Malcolm In The Middle is back for a four episode sequel series for Disney+, and details of the return are right here.
Before he gave one of the greatest perfomances on television as Walter White in Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston was Hal, the goofy, loveable Dad on Malcolm In The Middle, whose perfect comic timing is every bit as brilliant as his dramatic work – see the scene in one episode where he has to get rid of a spider as an example of that.
One of the first early 2000s sitcoms to popularise the single camera format, Malcolm In The Middle was created by Linwood Boomer, who previously produced the failed US adaptation of Red Dwarf.
The show followed the trials and tribulations of the Wilkerson family – father Hal (Cranston) is married to matriarch Lois (Jane Kaczmarek). There is eldest child Francis (Christopher Masterson), child prodigy Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), prankster Reese (Justin Berfield) and youngest child Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan).
The show garnered 33 Emmy nominations across its run, and received critical acclaim for the quality of its writing.
According to Variety, a four episode revival mini series is in the works for Disney+.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.
So far, only Muniz, Cranston and Kaczmarek are confirmed to be returning. Other cast members are likely to return with the exception of Sullivan, who quit acting in 2010 and has not participated in any cast reunions.
Boomer is also returning to write the scripts, with original series director Ken Kwapis directing all four episodes.
There is no air date for the new episodes, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
You can stream all seven seasons of Malcolm In The Middle on Disney+.
