Winning contestants remain on the show until they are defeated by another.

A 23-year-old from Nova Scotia - a province in Canada - Mattea Roach is a nine-time Jeopardy! winner going for her 10th attempt on Monday, April 18, 2022.
Kicking off her tenure on Tuesday, April 5, Mattea has racked up $210,802 so far in prize money.
"It feels wild," Mattea said per the Jeopardy! website, after initially qualifying for the Tournament of Champions.
"After the fourth game, I was thinking, 'I really want to be in that TOC,' especially with the incredible season and all the amazing streaks and fantastic players that have been on."
Mattea continued: "To be a Canadian on Jeopardy! is always very special.
"Alex Trebek's legacy is such a big part of the show."
She added: "So, yeah, I'm just glad that I'm putting on a good show for all the folks back up North."
Mattea currently works as a tutor in Toronto, Ontario.

Since Alex Trebek passed away in November of 2020, various people have filled in as the host of Jeopardy!.
Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik continue to co-host the show as of April 2022.
Fan theories have led people to believe Mayim may be the next permanent host, although nothing has been confirmed.
One Twitter sleuth noted the difference in introductions of the two hosts, writing: "So why is Ken Jennings 'hosting' Jeopardy, and Mayim is announced as 'the host of Jeopardy?'
They continued: "Asking for a friend. Something you've already decided?"
Others believe Ken will snag the resident gig after announcing he left The Chase, another quiz-based game show.

Jeopardy! airs new episodes on weekdays at 7pm ET on ABC.
The popular game show is also available on Hulu Live (not the regular streaming app), Sling TV, YouTube TV, and AT&T TV Now.
Season 38 of Jeopardy! kicked off on September 13, 2021.
