Herzog to return from Paris Olympics tomorrow due to lack of commercial flights
President Isaac Herzog will not be returning early to Israel in the wake of the deadly Hezbollah strike in Majdal Shams, The Times of Israel has learned, since he flew on a commercial flight and there are no such flights from France to Israel on Shabbat.
He will take off tomorrow morning for Israel.
Herzog held officials meetings with a series of foreign leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Dutch Premier Dick Schoof, and Slovenia’s President Nataša Pirc Musar.
On the sidelines of the event Macron hosted on Friday night for world leaders, Herzog also spoke with the kings of Spain, Denmark, Belgium, and The Netherlands, as well as Germany’s Chancellor, and the presidents of Finland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Portugal, Cyprus, Paraguay, Argentina, and Poland. He also spoke with the heads of international organizations, including the International Olympic Committee.
On Shabbat morning, Herzog walked to a synagogue in Paris in order to pray with the local Jewish community.
