Vaclav Hladky: Ipswich Town will stick to one-game-at-a-time approach, says goalkeeper

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky says they will not be listening to the opinions of "people outside" as the promotion race reaches the final phase.

Saturday's 6-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday took them to 81 points for the season with eight games remaining.

"Obviously we look at the table, but we just want to go and be ready for another game," said Hladky.

"We've been doing it all season and for sure we want to do it for the last eight games and where we end up, we'll see."

Ipswich were beaten by two added-time goals at Cardiff in their previous game but bounced back with what head coach Kieran McKenna felt was probably their most complete performance of the season.

"At the end of the day, it looks like an easy game but you have to go from minute one and you have to go through some difficulties, which there were," Hladky told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"6-0 is really positive and the best way we could finish the block (of fixtures). It was a great response from the team, it's not easy when you lose a game in extra time.

"We learnt from the previous game, we start again and it was a great day for everybody."

He continued: "It's part of our preparation to come back again if we lose a game, we are not really listening to what people outside are saying (about the promotion situation)."

Impact of subs 'a big strength'

Ipswich will return to action with an away game against Blackburn Rovers on 29 March, and will then take on fourth-placed Southampton - who are eight points behind the Tractor Boys - at Portman Road on 1 April.

McKenna - who described their current points total as "incredible" - is braced for winger Wes Burns being absent for at least some of the remaining fixtures after suffering a hamstring injury against Wednesday, which is also likely to keep him out of Wales' game against Finland on Thursday.

Town also have a slight concern about top scorer Conor Chaplin, who missed the Wednesday game with a back strain.

"We'll see how he recovers over the next two weeks," said McKenna.

Ipswich, however, are confident they have sufficient quality in their squad to cover from any absentees.

Kayden Jackson replaced Burns against the Owls and provided an assist for the third goal, scored by Nathan Broadhead.

"We've been talking about our impact from the bench all season, we see it as a big strength of ours, we work on it and we always get some reward," said Hladky.

"It was a great January window for us. Four people came in, (they've made a) great impact that you can see every game."

McKenna added: "We've shown before that we try to respond well to these setbacks and other people will step into the team and do a job.

"Kayden got straight into the flow of the game, produced a fantastic cross for the third goal, which was a massive goal in the game, and was a big threat in the second half."
