USWNT discovers Womens World Cup schedule as Emma Hayes outlines dream
The Women's World Cup will be played in South America for the first time in 2027 - with Brazil hosting one of the biggest tournaments in soccer between June 24 and July 25

The 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil is set to take place from June 24 to July 25, as announced by soccer's governing body FIFA on Tuesday.

The news will interest the United States Women's National Team (USWNT), who is looking to regain its crown after struggling list time out. The USWNT was surprisingly knocked of the 2023 tournament - held in Australia and New Zealand - at the Round of 16.

That poor result led to the resignation of head coach Vlatko Andonovski and paved the way for Emma Hayes to take charge. The British coach is determined to win the World Cup for the United States after claiming the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

"I'm a competitor and I want to win football matches and I represent a dressing room that likes winning too," Hayes told ESPN ahead of the goalless draw against England last month. "So of course we're coming to win at the weekend, but it's not like my overarching goal. I want to qualify for the World Cup. I want to win the World Cup."

Expectations are high for two reasons. Firstly, the USWNT is the most successful international team when it comes to women's soccer. The Americans are four-time winners of the World Cup and have reached at least the semifinals every time, except in 2023.

Secondly, Hayes is arguably the best coach in women's soccer. The 48-year-old won the Women's Super League - England's national championship - seven times during her 12-year spell with Chelsea. She also won five FA Cups and two League Cups with the Blues.

And Hayes was the head coach of three soccer teams in the United States before becoming Chelsea's boss - taking charge of the Long Island Rough Riders, Iona Gaels, and Chicago Red Stars. She also enjoyed a three-year spell as Arsenal's assistant coach.

The 2027 World Cup will see thirty-two teams battling it out for the title, marking the first time the tournament is being held in South America. As the host nation, Brazil automatically secures one of South America's three spots. Europe leads with the most slots at 11, followed by Asia with six, Africa and CONCACAF (North and Central America) each with four, and Oceania with one.

The remaining places will be decided through playoffs. Spain is the current champion who clinched the 2023 World Cup. FIFA is slated to reveal the host cities and stadiums in Brazil for the tournament next year. A total of 12 bids have been submitted, including several stadiums that hosted the men's World Cup games in 2014.
