December 11 – The 2027 Women’s World Cup will be played from 24 June to 25 July that year, world governing body FIFA confirmed on Tuesday following a meeting of its Council.

The dates were agreed after consultation with the Brazilian Confederation of Football (CBF) and the Confederation.

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 is already taking shape and we can’t wait for the opening match on Thursday, 24 June 2027 – and all matches that lead to the final on Sunday, 25 July 2027,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a statement.

“This historic tournament will have a massive impact not only in South America, but around the whole world, taking the women’s game to the next level in terms of participation and popularity.”

FIFA also confirmed the slot allocation of the 32-team tournament, with 11 direct slots for Europe and three for Conmebol in addition to Brazil qualifying automatically as hosts. Both Concacaf and CAF get four direct slots with AFC enjoying six slots.

The three remaining finalists will be decided through a ten-team play-off tournament.

It’s the first time that South America will stage the tournament.

In May, the Brazilians defeated the European triumvirate of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany in a vote at the FIFA Congress.

Brazil’s victory was seen as a consolation prize for South America after the region relinquished its dream of staging a centenary World Cup in 2030 and settled for just three matches. That allowed Infantino and his excutive to steer the 2034 finals to Saudi Arabia.

It will be the second time that the tournament will be played in a 32-team format following the 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand where Spain defeated England 2-1 in the final to win a maiden Women’s World Cup title.
