FIFA Confirms Dates and Slot Distribution for Women's World Cup in Brazil
The 10th edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup, set to take place in Brazil in 2027, now has confirmed dates. FIFA announced on Tuesday, October 10, that the tournament will commence on June 24 and conclude on July 25. The announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the technical committee meeting held in Zurich, Switzerland.
Infantino also revealed how the 32 slots for the competition will be allocated, marking the first time the tournament will be hosted in South America. The Brazilian cities that will host the event are yet to be determined.
In total, 32 teams will participate in the World Cup, with 29 qualifying directly through tournaments organized by the continental confederations. As the host nation, Brazil is guaranteed one of the three direct slots allocated by CONMEBOL/South America. The remaining slots will be distributed as follows: UEFA/Europe (11 slots), AFC/Asia (6), CAF/Africa (4), CONCACAF/North and Central America (4), and OFC/Oceania (1).

The first phase will feature six teams selected based on the latest FIFA women's ranking prior to the playoff draw. The top two teams will advance to the final phase in February 2027, joining four other teams, including two from CONCACAF, one from CONMEBOL, and one from UEFA. A draw will occur for the three knockout matchups that will decide the last three World Cup spots.
