Family Day closures around Hamilton, Halton and Niagara Region
Most of the province will get to stay home tomorrow as Ontario celebrates Family Day.
The third Monday of each February marks the annual holiday and serves as a chance to emphasize the importance of family.
While many provinces recognize Family Day as a holiday, it still is not a federal statutory holiday.
Here’s a list of what will be open and what will be closed on Family Day.
CLOSED FOR FAMILY DAY
- Municipal and provincial government offices
- Banks
- The Beer Store
- LCBO
- Most malls including CF Lime Ridge, Eastgate Square, Mapleview and the Pen Centre.
- Libraries
- Most grocery stores
OPEN FOR FAMILY DAY
- Canada Post mail collection and delivery will run as normal
- Niagara Region garbage collection will run as normal
- Most pharmacies, however some may have modified hours
- Movie theatres
Whether it’s garbage collection, public transit or general recreation centres, there are a myriad of public services that will be open, closed or operating in a limited capacity over the holiday.
City of Hamilton
Public transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule. The last trips from downtown will take place at approximately 10 p.m.

ATS-Darts offices will be closed. All subscription trips on DARTS, with the exception of dialysis trips, are cancelled for the holiday.
Waste collection services will not happen. Instead, all scheduled pickups will shift ahead by one day. Additionally, public recycling centres will be closed.
All Hamilton Civic Museums are engaging visitors with family-friendly programming on Monday.
Hamilton’s Farmer Market will be closed.
The Hamilton Public Library will be closed.
City of Hamilton Animal Services offices and shelters will be closed.
Niagara Region
Transit in St. Catharines will run from 10:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In Niagara Falls, it will run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In Welland, it will run from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be no regional routes in service.

Waste collection services will be delayed by one day.
Halton Region
Transit services will be running on a Sunday schedule in Burlington and Oakville.
Milton Transit will not be operating.
Waste collection services will not occur in Burlington, Oakville or Milton and will instead resume the following day.
Brant County
Brant Transit will not operate on Feb. 19 and will return to full service on Feb. 20.
Regular curbside waste collection will occur as per usual.
Norfolk County
Waste collection services in Simcoe will run as usual.
Waste collection in Norfolk County will be delayed by one day.
Haldimand County
Waste collection services in the region will be delayed by one day.
