‘Grand but not fussy’: New England hotel named among best in the world
A New England hotel described as “grand but not fussy” has been named among the very best in the world.
Luxury and lifestyle travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler on Wednesday released its 31st annual Gold List for 2025, a global compilation of hotels where the publication’s editors enjoy staying the most.
“We highlight them not only for their beauty, comfort, or impeccable service but also because we’ve developed deeply emotional relationships with them,” the magazine wrote of its selections. “These are the hotels we recommend to our friends, that we tell stories about later.”
Ten hotels in America landed on Conde Nast Traveler’s exclusive list, including an iconic spot that New Englanders know well.
The travel publication wrote that a stay at the Woodstock Inn & Resort in Woodstock, Vermont, “feels like a Norman Rockwell reverie.”
“Grand, but not fussy. Of another era, but far from old-fashioned. The Woodstock Inn & Resort is the Goldilocks property that’s managed to evolve with the times while maintaining its quintessential New England charm. Situated across from the town green, the Federal-style mansion feels like a Norman Rockwell reverie,” Conde Nast Traveler wrote. “Inside, the cozy lobby serves as a communal living room where guests read newspapers. Outside, families toast s’mores around fire pits and play lawn games. Regular updates to the 200-plus-year-old hotel, including a glow-up of all 142 rooms and the addition of a Scandi-chic spa, ensure that loyal East Coasters keep returning for generations.”
In a Facebook post, the Woodstock Inn & Resort said it was “thrilled” to be recognized on the Gold List.
