Coco Gauff set for huge six-figure windfall despite crashing out of French Open semis – adding to her s...
Coco Gauff's bid for a second Grand Slam title is over after losing to Iga Swiatek at the French Open.
The American was beaten 6-2, 6-4 by the world no.1 in Thursday's semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier - the same opponent she lost to in the 2022 final.
Gauff cut a frustrated figure against the measured Pole and held back tears after getting into a tense argument with the chair umpire in the second set.
Despite the defeat, the 20-year-old, who will become the new world no. 2 on Monday, is still set for a major Roland Garros payday after reaching the final four.
The total cash prize at this year's event, for men and women, will be $63,519,219 - a 7.82% increase compared to the last year's edition.
Men and women will receive the same paycheck with the winners on both sides receiving a total of $2,607,120.

Semi-finalists in Paris this year will receive $706,030 - a small consolation for Gauff after she lost to Swiatek for the third year in a row at the second Grand Slam of the season.
The 2023 US Open champion was already the highest paid female athlete in the world last year, according to Sportico.
To create its annual list, Sportico relies on “conversations with those familiar with marketing agreements”—likely a player’s agent or a sponsor’s marketing insider—and also factors in “royalties, memorabilia, appearance fees, media and businesses tied to their celebrity.”
The Delray Beach resident earned a reported $22.7 million last year, including $16 million from off-the-court earnings.
The year before, Gauff was No. 8 on Sportico’s list with an estimated $7.7 million in combined earnings.
Gauff has endorsement deals with Ray Ban and Meta for their new smart glasses, as well as Bose, UPS, Barilla and Baker Tilly, among other brands.
She is also part of the New Balance team, a deal she signed when she was 14.
“Nothing’s better for my game than taking my mind off my game,” she said in video endorsing Meta's smart glasses.
“When I was younger, a lot of people used to think I lived and breathed and ate tennis…I just feel like people only see the work on the court, but don’t realize how many things I like to do off the court. I like to do a lot of things, I just don’t necessarily always share that stuff about myself.”
She continued, “People think athletes in general, we only do our sport and that’s it. But it’s definitely not, we’re people too… I do things that normal teenagers do.”
