In our hyper-digital, extremely-online world, the majority of teasing new music goes down on social media.

But if you're Carly Rae Jepsen — Queen of Everything and swordfighter extraordinaire — erecting a promotional billboard is still well within the realm of an album(?) rollout.

Yesterday (April 6), there were sightings of a placarded Jepsen overlooking some lucky stretch of highway somewhere in the US with the title "Western Wind." The billboard also included a phone number, which fans can call at 213-732-3275 to hear a pre-recorded message from the pop star.

"Hello, you've reached the Carly Rae Jepsen hotline," the recording goes. "Text me here to stay in the loop on all the kinds of things: new music, tour, secrets that I haven't even come up with yet. News… no, wait, there will be no news — sorry!"

"But there will be music for sure," she adds.

Ahead of the billboard and the confirmed title of whatever this is, Jepsen teased a snippet of new music on Instagram back in February — and earlier this week, she shared a map of California graphic on her socials with the caption: "x marks the spot." In this case, her "X" appears at Exit 130, between Palm Springs and Palm Desert.

The little treasure map appears to be littered with lyric snippets, featuring lines like "California, it crossed my mind," "Reminding me love that it's all connected," "First bloom, you know it's spring," "Do you feel home in all directions?" and of course, "Coming in like a western wind."

Coachella is also very clearly marked out, so the festival might very well be treated to some new music when Jepsen takes the stage next weekend. Her most recent release was the 2020 holiday tune "It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries." That prolific year also saw her deliver the one-off "Me and the Boys in the Band" as well as Dedicated: Side B, following 2019's Dedicated — her last proper studio album.
