Grade 5 Students: How can we work towards Truth and Reconciliation? (Orange Shirt Day)

Grade 5 students in Victoria, BC talk about the importance of truth and reconciliation in Canada. They discuss the need to hear the stories of Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools, learn from the past, and work towards healing and a better future. They explain how we all have a responsibility to reconcile the injustices of the past. The students share ways to get started engaging in this journey, such as wearing orange shirts, respecting Indigenous ceremonies and spaces, supporting Indigenous artists and communities, and listening to and sharing Indigenous stories when you have permission to do so. They discuss the need for unity, understanding, and seeing the world through someone else\'s eyes—and uncovering the truth absolving forward with awareness so there can be healing and a future where we understand that every child matters. There is more work to do. CLICK HERE for detail about the learning process: https://inquiryninja.com/2024/09/27/orange-shirt-day-nati
