Blue Bloods Season 14: Star Hints The CBS Show Might Not Be Ending After All
Summary
- Star Donnie Wahlberg hints that Blue Bloods could continue after season 14.
- It was previously announced that 2024's season 14 would be the end of the show.
- Wahlberg expressed uncertainty about the show's end, mentioning "rumblings" of a possible continuation.
Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg isn't so sure that the show is going off the air. The CBS crime drama follows the multigenerational law enforcement family the Reagans, including patriarch Frank (Tom Selleck) and his eldest son Danny (Wahlberg). After the show was renewed for the two-part season 14, which will air throughout 2024, it was announced that the new season would also be the show's last.
Per People, Wahlberg recently made an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live where he spoke about Blue Bloods season 14. During their conversation, he seemed less than certain that the ongoing season would truly be the end of the show. He described it as being "allegedly" the final season, hinting that "there are rumblings" about a possible continuation. Read his full quote below:
Allegedly... Potentially... There are rumblings, so we'll see what happens.
Could Blue Bloods Keep Going After Season 14?
It is unclear what "rumblings" Wahlberg is referring to, and how connected they are to his own strong desire for Danny's Blue Bloods story to continue. The star has previously spoken out about his wish that the show would go on as long as other crime procedurals like Law & Order: SVU. However, the fact that the cast accepted pay cuts in order to star in season 14 could spell out severe behind-the-scenes issues.
Law & Order: SVU is currently airing season 25.
With pay rates diminishing from what stars have expected over the past 13 Blue Bloods seasons, it doesn't seem like a guarantee that the entire cast would return for season 15. The Reagan family has been the core of the show for more than a decade, with Wahlberg, Selleck, and their co-stars Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, and Len Cariou maintaining a place in the main cast across every season. If even one of them were to step down, the show likely wouldn't be the same.
However, it's possible that what Wahlberg is referring to is a Blue Bloods spinoff. If Danny were to break out as the lead of his own sequel show, it might solve some of the financial and casting issues that would hamper season 15, surrounding him with new stars with less expensive contracts. It remains to be seen if any project comes to fruition, but Wahlberg's confidence does make it seem like there is a possibility that the universe could continue in one way or another.
Blue Bloods airs on CBS on Fridays at 10:00 p.m. ET.
