Arnold Schwarzenegger, Salma Hayek Retire as Gods in Super Bowl Ad
Eternals star Salma Hayek becomes a god once again in a new Super Bowl ad-- not as Ajak, but as queen of the Greek pantheon, Hera. Alongside her is none other than actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus, master of Olympus.
The BMW ad, set to air during the Super Bowl game, sees Hera and Zeus retire from ruling over the Greek pantheon and instead live among humans in sunny California. While Zeus struggles to find peace and quiet away from neighbors and friends requesting some of his lightning, it's all made better when Hera brings home the all-electric BMW iX.

Schwarzenegger previously hinted at the ad's debut and his humorous take on Zeus back in January, when he released an image of himself in costume in an intense and electrifying photo. Back then, the ad itself was left a mystery, with some speculation that it could be for an upcoming project.
Following the release of the poster for the ad, Schwarzenegger was temporarily listed as part of the cast of Warner Bros.' Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It was later confirmed that his appearance as Zeus was for the BMW ad and the actor appeared in a brief clip as the Greek god, this one without Hayek.

Hayek's involvement in the ad was unknown up until its release. The actor was last seen fighting Deviants and saving the world in Marvel Studios' Eternals. She previously revealed that the role surprised her, as she expected to be hired for a grandmother-like role. Hayek stated, "I guess that I thought that boat had sailed, and it was an absolute shock...It's kind of hard to be an action hero if you're Mexican. It's really hard to be an action hero if you’re a Mexican and a woman. But to be an action hero, being Mexican, a woman, and my age, it felt like they were punking me."
Ajak, who served as the leader of the Eternals during their time as a team, perished in the film, slain by Deviants after being betrayed by Ikaris. It is unlikely she will return in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Eternals itself has not been well-received by critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing $402.1 million on a budget of $200 million.
Eternals is now available to stream on Disney+.
