Antibiotics
Rule-based omics mining reveals antimicrobial macrocyclic peptides against drug-resistant clinical isolates. This study reports the genomics- and metabolomics-guided discovery of aminovinyl-(methyl-)cysteine-containing peptides (ACyP). One of these peptides, massatide A, demonstrates excellent activity against drug-resistant gram-positive pathogens.
These findings highlight the potential of ACyP peptides as a new class of antibiotics to combat drug-resistant bacteria. The discovery of massatide A and its effectiveness against gram-positive pathogens is a significant step forward in the fight against antibiotic resistance. Further research and development in this area could lead to the development of novel antibiotics with improved efficacy and reduced resistance.
