Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Reveals Return Of Green Goblin & Doc Ock

SpiderMan No Way Home Trailer Reveals Return Of Green Goblin Doc Ock
Tom Holland returns in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home movie trailer reveals a first look at footage from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Tom Holland has played the MCU's Peter Parker since 2016's Captain America: Civil War and so far lead two solo films in addition to appearing in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. After a new deal between Marvel Studios/Disney and Sony Pictures was reached in 2019, Spider-Man was confirmed to stay in the MCU (for now) as a third solo film was announced - with another team-up also part of the agreement.

Since then, Spider-Man: No Way Home has taken form, bringing back Holland as Peter Parker to continue the character's story from the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home. That movie saw Peter outed as Spider-Man and framed for murdering Mysterio, leaving him to go on the run. In addition to Holland, Zendaya will return as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Joining the cast for Spider-Man: No Way Home are Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Further rumors have indicated former Spider-Man franchise stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may appear, but Holland and Sony have refuted those rumors. Now the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie trailer offers a first look at the MCU film.

Sony Pictures unveiled the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie trailer, which shows Holland's return as the wall-crawling superhero. In addition to showcasing Doctor Strange, the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer reveals the return of Molina's Doc Ock - with the menacing line, "Hello Peter" - and teases the return of Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, both from Maguire's Spider-Man movies. Though Dafoe isn't shown, his laugh and his version of Green Goblin's pumpkin bombs do appear. Check out the trailer below.

The majority of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer focuses on setting up the story of the movie, which picks up immediately after the events of Far From Home's post-credits scene when Peter's identity was revealed. From there, it appears he's arrested and questioned, while Ned and Aunt May also undergo questioning. In one brief shot, Peter's shown poring over files in a room with a man in a white button-up shirt and tie - which perhaps could be Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, another MCU character rumored but unconfirmed to appear in the film. The main story of the film seems to pick up when Peter goes to Doctor Strange for help making everyone forget he's Spider-Man, but the spell goes awry. If that's the inciting incident of the Spider-Man: No Way Home story, then there's a great deal of the plot this trailer is holding back. That's teased somewhat with all the reality-bending action sequences showcased in the trailer, from Peter being on the train to him falling through realities.

Of course, the big reveal of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is Molina's Doc Ock and, to a somewhat lesser extent, Dafoe's Green Goblin. There's also a shot of yellow lightning around the 2:26 mark of the trailer that could be a hint of Foxx's Electro. When Foxx appeared as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his lightning was blue. But shortly after his casting was reported, Foxx teased a new look for Electro in an Instagram post he later deleted, so it's possible the yellow lightning could be part of Electro's redesign. The inclusion of these three villains seems to indicate the past Spider-Man franchises as part of the MCU multiverse, but how exactly they'll fit into the story is yet to be seen. Perhaps Sony is building to a Sinister Six uniting villains from all three franchises. More will no doubt be teased in a future Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, but for now, this is a good teaser to get audiences excited for the film.
