Vladimir Tarasenko trade details: Veteran winger waives no-trade clause to go from Senators to Panthers

Vladimir Tarasenko trade details Veteran winger waives notrade clause to
go from Senators to Panthers
The two-time All-Star agreed to be traded to the NHL points-leading Panthers.

The Panthers are already leading the NHL in points heading into the final quarter of the season, and the reigning Eastern Conference champions just got even better.

Florida will acquire winger Vladimir Tarasenko from the Senators, with the two-time All-Star expected to waive his no-trade clause for a deal to join the Panthers.

Tarasenko is in the midst of another standout campaign, posting 17 goals and 24 assists in 57 games. He also has a plus-minus of 13.

The 32-year-old signed a one-year contract with a no-trade clause with the Senators before the season. Evidently, he decided he was willing to leave Ottawa, which has the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference, to join the team atop the conference's standings.

Tarasenko has appeared in the playoffs all but one season of his career (2017-18). He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in '18-19.

Vladimir Tarasenko trade details

Here are the complete details of the trade sending Tarasenko to the Panthers.

Florida Panthers receive:

  • F Vladimir Tarasenko

Ottawa Senators receive:

  • 2024 conditional fourth-round pick
  • 2025 third-round pick

The Senators are looking to bolster their draft class, while the Panthers are eyeing Tarasenko as a chance to add depth. The 2024 fourth-round pick will be a third if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup this season.

Florida is likely not looking at Tarasenko as a top-line forward, with the unit of Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe, and Sam Reinhart comprising a dominant group. He could wind up becoming a second-line member, lining up with Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk and moving Nick Cousins down to a third line.

Tarasenko is a natural scorer and a dynamic playmaker, and lining him up with Bennett and Tkachuk could give the Panthers two deep sets of forwards who can rival any in the NHL.

Vladimir Tarasenko contract

Tarasenko signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Senators in the offseason. It was his first deal since signing an eight-year, $60 million deal with the Blues ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Senators will retain 50 percent of Tarasenko's salary as part of the trade.

That contract included a no-trade clause, which gave Tarasenko the option to nix a trade to any team in the NHL. As would be expected, he did not turn down the opportunity to play for the league's top Stanley Cup contender.
