Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area now included in snowfall warning already issued for Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area

OLDS - Environment Canada upgraded its special weather statement for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area Tuesday afternoon to a snowfall warning.

Between 10 and 30 centimetres (cm) of snow is expected by Friday morning across southern Alberta, the new warning states.

The multi-day snowfall event will start overnight Tuesday and last until Friday.

"A widespread area of 10-20 cm of snow is expected, but an axis of 15-30 cm is expected from Nordegg/Rocky Mountain House south through the Calgary area over the three day period," the warning continues.

The federal agency noted that the snowfall warning will be expanded farther south as the system progresses.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions," the warning concludes.

A special weather statement for the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area was upgraded earlier Tuesday to a snowfall warning as well.

RCMP area warning of possible treacherous road conditions, especially on Highway 2 between Airdrie and Innisfail.
