Hongkonger finishes more than a second faster than Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey, with American Claire Weinstein third.

Siobhan Haughey became a five-time world champion on Sunday, blitzing her opposition in the women’s 200-metres freestyle final at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest.

Haughey posted the third fastest time ever recorded, touching the wall at the Duna Arena in one minute 50.62 seconds to win gold.

The 27-year-old was almost one second faster than Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey, who finished in 1:51.49. American Claire Weinstein took bronze in 1:51.62.

“I think for me, I just try not to think about what I’ve done in the past and really focus on what I can do today,” Haughey said.

“It’s a little hard when one of my favourite events, the 200 free is the last day, so then you kind of had to sit through the whole meet and wait for it. But I’m really happy with how I did today.”
