World Polio Day ceremony Thursday
The Rotary Club of Butte will be celebrating World Polio Day with a program from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday in NorthWestern Energy’s lobby, 11 E. Park St. Information will be shared and refreshments will be served.
Throughout the week, an iron lung will be on display in the lobby.
In 1988, there were an estimated 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries. Since that time, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%. So far in 2024, 54 cases of polio exist in two endemic countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Rotary International, the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are continuing their efforts to eradicate polio in the world.
