Easter weekend rainfall warning issued for PEIs Prince County
As much as 15 mm of rain per hour could fall over parts of Prince Edward Island in the next 36 hours, Environment Canada warned Thursday afternoon.

An Environment Canada warning could put a damper on outdoor or travel plans for the Easter long weekend — literally.

As much as 15 mm of rain per hour could fall over parts of Prince Edward Island in the next 36 hours, the weather agency warned Thursday afternoon.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads," said the text of a rainfall warning for Prince County, which makes up the western third of the province.

To compensate in part, temperatures should stay warmer than average for this time of year, with the Charlottetown area expected to reach 13 C on Friday.

Prince County could get from 50 to 70 mm of rain by midday Saturday, Environment Canada's warning said.

CBC meteorologist Ryan Snoddon said on social media that a weekend system has a "bull's-eye set for New Brunswick, western Nova Scotia and P.E.I. with widespread rain of 40 to 80 mm and pockets of 100+ mm by Saturday."

Snoddon said localized flooding is possible, with rain mixing to flurries Friday night and Saturday.
