ITV News At 10 host Charlene White has given an update on her co-star Rageh Omaar's health after he fell ill on air last month, sparking questions over his appearance

Charlene White has updated on her ITV News colleague Rageh Omaar's health scare.

Last month, the 56-year-old News At 10 anchor, needed medical attention when he seemed to lose his bearings and started slurring his speech while reading from the autocue towards the end of the programme.

Viewers witnessed Omaar, who is ITV News' International Affairs Editor, fumble as he tried to tidy his desk and cap a pen after wrapping up the final news item just as the credits rolled.

She added: "I think when he wants to talk about what happened then he will," she spilled to The Sun. "ITV News is a family, we have been checking up on him daily and continuously in fact to make sure he has the support he needs."

Last month, mates of Rageh shared that he was "up and about at home and doing OK" post a suspected mini stroke. But the incident has kicked off a storm of speculation about why he was even allowed to go live, reports the Mirror.

A source told The Times: "There are big questions about why he was allowed to go on air. Perhaps they thought, 'He is a pro and the adrenaline will kick in when he gets on air.'"

The insider went on to say: "Even if you think that he was just having an off day, you don't need a medical degree to see that it was clear when you watched that something was seriously wrong."

They added: "It is true that they were trying to get him to come off air but someone needs to be able overrule the presenters when there is a medical emergency." After his telly scare, Rageh Omaar took to penning a heartfelt note to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support.

"I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern", he shared, revealing his "determination" to power through the broadcast despite the health scare.
