A look ahead to Tuesday's Hall of Fame results; who's new on the ballot, who's on for the last time, where the voting is trending.

Baseball’s Hall of Fame class of 2024 will be announced Tuesday at 6 p.m., when the balloting is revealed on MLB Network.

Any new electees will join former big-league manager Jim Leyland, voted in last month by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.

Here’s a Hall of Fame week guide:

Recapping Baseball Hall of Fame 2023 election

On his sixth try, third baseman Scott Rolen was the only player elected last year, being named on 76.3 percent of ballots cast by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Who's been dropped from Baseball Hall of Fame 2024 ballot?

In his 10th and last year of eligibility on the writers’ Hall of Fame ballot in 2023, Jeff Kent received 46.5 percent.

Additionally, 12 other players did not receive the required five percent necessary to remain on the ballot.

How do players get elected to Baseball Hall of Fame?

A player must receive 75 percent of votes cast by eligible BBWAA members (at least 10 consecutive years in the association). Voters may check a box for as many as 10 candidates.

A total of 389 ballots were cast in the previous election. Players on MLB’s ineligible list cannot be candidates. Write-in votes are not permitted.

When is Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony?

It will take place Sunday, July 21, at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum at Cooperstown, N.Y.

Who is on first ballot for Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024?

Twelve players made their first appearance on a Hall of Fame ballot this year.

Listed alphabetically: Jose Bautista, Adrian Beltre, Bartolo Colon, Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Holliday, Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer, Brandon Phillips, Jose Reyes, James Shields, Chase Utley and David Wright.

Which players are on final year of Baseball Hall of Fame 2024 ballot?

Gary Sheffield makes his 10th and final appearance on the writers’ ballot, having received 55 percent on last year’s ballot, his best showing to date.

His Cooperstown credentials are solid, including 509 career homers, a .907 OPS and low strikeout rates for an impact slugger, but his brief association with Barry Bonds has been a drag on his candidacy.

As Sheffield told USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale, he was given a balm for his aching knees during an offseason workout and applied it just once, later to learn the cream contained a steroid.

Who will be elected to Baseball Hall of Fame 2024?

According to Ryan Thibodaux’s Baseball Hall of Fame Tracker, Beltre, Mauer and Todd Helton have all been trending above 75 percent, based on the publicly revealed ballots of over 40 percent of the electorate.

Sheffield, Andruw Jones and Billy Wagner are trending at or near the 75 percent threshold.

Mets and Yankees Hall of Fame connections

Among former Mets and Yankees, the cases of Sheffield and Wagner – on his ninth ballot – are the most compelling.

Wagner received 68.1 percent in 2023, and his chances at election seem good, if not this year than next.

On his second ballot, Carlos Beltran is trending higher than his 46.5 percent last year, when a portion of voters might have temporarily omitted the switch-hitting center fielder based on his role in the Houston Astros electronic sign stealing scandal.

What about Alex Rodriguez and others?

Alex Rodriguez has received just over one-third of voting support, due to his controversies surrounding performance enhancing drugs, but he’ll have seven more cracks at this Cooperstown ballot.

The Hall of Fame cases of Andy Pettitte (6th year) and Bobby Abreu (5th year) could get another boost, but they’ve yet to crest 20 percent.

David Wright might get enough support to remain on next year’s ballot, but infield teammate Jose Reyes is likely making his only appearance, along with Bartolo Colon (2011 Yankees, 2014-16 Mets), Jose Bautista (2018 Mets) and Matt Holliday (2017 Yankees).
