Pedro Pascal Recalls Backing Out of Daredevil for Another Netflix Series
Pedro Pascal would have made his Marvel debut many years ago if not for Narcos coming along.
Recently, Pedro Pascal attended a "Career Retrospective" showcasing his work for a Q&A hosted by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. During the talk, Pascal was asked about his role in Narcos. The actor then shared that he had to back out of a role in the original Daredevil series in order to pursue the Narcos spot, which had come back open for him after he was initially passed over for the part.
Daredevil: Born Again Enlists Candy Cane Lane Actor for Key Role
Daredevil: Born Again welcomes a new cast member who will be joining Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/ Daredevil in the upcoming Marvel Studios series."I got Narcos because of Game of Thrones - they were shocked to know that I was available, because the fight scene had not aired yet," Pascal explained, referring to his Game of Thrones character getting killed off and freeing up his acting schedule. "So, really, this is a major [confession]. I did audition for [Narcos]. I did not get the part. They offered it to somebody else, and then that person fell out. But, at that point, the fourth season of Game of Thrones was airing, and when the actor fell out of the role, I was auditioning for Daredevil for Marvel."
Pedro Pascal then shared how the role he was up for on Daredevil was not as Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, but as a supporting character. While he couldn't recall the character's name, Pascal shared that it would have been as an attorney. The actor probably had a great shot of locking the role, but when he was set to begin testing, the offer to take on a bigger role in Narcos came along. Pascal was amused by how this pitted two Netflix shows against one another, which resulted in him ultimately backing out of Daredevil to pursue his Narcos role.
Why the MCU Shouldn't Do This Iconic Daredevil Moment
Daredevil: Born Again is bringing back more Daredevil characters to the MCU and it would be a mistake to end the story of one character too soon."It was like a supporting character [for Daredevil]," Pascal said. "You know, 'Character Number Six.' He was a lawyer, I can't remember the name... So, I was going to test for that role, and so, to intercept the test, they ended up offering me the Narcos [role]. It was like Netflix against Netflix."
In the true crime drama series Narcos, Pedro Pascal played real-life former DEA agent Javier Peña. It was a role that garnered the actor further acclaim, leading to more major opportunities in his career. He followed up that show with a starring role in the hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and he will soon start working on a new movie that will bring his character to the big screen, dubbed The Mandalorian & Grogu. He has also been starring on HBO's hit show The Last of Us, a role which has earned him nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes.
Pedro Pascal May Be Making His MCU Debut Soon Enough
Pascal may have missed out on one chance to join the MCU when he backed out of Daredevil, but he will reportedly be rectifiying that with a much bigger role in an upcoming film. It's been widely reported that Pascal will play Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot, putting him in a major superhero role. The casting hasn't been officially announced yet as of this time, however.
