Kendrick Lamar announces Detroit concert with SZA on post-Super Bowl stadium tour
Tickets for the Compton rapper's first stadium outing go on sale Friday, with pre-sales starting Wednesday.
Chart-topping rapper Kendrick Lamar will follow his performance at halftime of next year's Super Bowl with his first U.S. stadium tour, including a June 10 date at Ford Field, promoters announced Tuesday.
Tickets for the show — part of the rapper's Grand National Tour, alongside his frequent collaborator and four-time Grammy winner SZA — go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, with a Cash App presale starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The show is part of a 19-city, 21-date run that kicks off April 19 in Minneapolis and wraps June 18 in Washington, DC. Full dates are below.
Lamar is currently sitting at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart with his latest album "GNX," which was surprise-released on Nov. 22. Songs from "GNX" occupy the top 5 slots on this week's Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, with "Squabble Up" crowning the tally; in all, Lamar has seven of the week's top 10 singles.
"Squabble Up" is Lamar's third No. 1 of 2024, following "Like That," his collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin which spent three weeks at No. 1 in the spring, and "Not Like Us," his knockout blow in his feud with Drake, which spent two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 in May and July.
He previously hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 with "Humble" in 2017 and "Bad Blood," his collaboration with Taylor Swift, in 2015.
Lamar, 37, is set to headline halftime of Super Bowl LIX, Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. He was also a part of the Super Bowl halftime performance in 2022, when he performed alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent at SoFi Stadium in his hometown of Los Angeles.
The concert announcement is Ford Field's second in two days, following Monday's announcement that AC/DC will perform at the Detroit Lions' home on April 30. The venue is also set to host Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks on March 29 and Post Malone and Jelly Roll on May 18.
Lamar's climb to stadium status included several stops on the local ladder, including an April 2011 performance at the Shelter and a September 2012 concert at Royal Oak Music Theatre. In 2013 he performed at Meadow Brook Music Festival, Chene Park and the Fillmore Detroit while touring behind his breakthrough album, "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City."
After supporting Kanye West on the Yeezus tour, which included a Dec. 2013 date at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Lamar headlined the Palace on his "Damn." tour in July 2017 and Pine Knob, then-DTE Energy Music Theatre, on his Championship Tour in June 2018.
Lamar's last area performance was at Little Caesars Arena in August 2022, as part of his Big Steppers Tour.
SZA's last area performance was in February 2023 at Little Caesars Arena.
