Inside Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson's Met Gala 2022 Debut

As the world waited to see who made fashion history at the Met Gala 2022 on Monday, Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson decided to forgo any pressure surrounding their Met Gala debut.

“Every time I get to attend an event with my beautiful wife, it’s a chance for me to celebrate her,” says Jackson. Before the couple hit the Met Gala 2022 red carpet with Alessandro Michele of Gucci, they got ready for fashion’s biggest night side-by-side. “I would say that we generally tend to want to do everything together,” says Jackson. “Were obnoxious like that,” Turner-Smith playfully adds.

As Motorola’s newest ambassadors, the couple, who tied the knot in 2019, are evoking the nostalgia of the flip phone with their newest #hanguponit campaign and leaving any inhibitions at the door. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t hang up on all of the self-doubt that stood in my way,” Turner-Smith says.

For the After Yang actor, the excitement began the moment she got the call from her agent that explained Gucci was interested in dressing her for the Met Gala 2022.

“I was so excited because it's my first Met Gala—exciting thing. I found out that Alessandro wanted me to go with him and to dress me in Gucci, and I was just absolutely over the moon,” she says. “It's definitely something that I've wanted to do for a long time and that I've seen for a long time and thought to myself, wow, I can't wait till I get to play like that. And here we go.”

Last year, Turner-Smith became the face of Gucci’s High Jewelry collection and has worn the brand’s creations on both the red carpet and the runway. Attending the 2022 Met Gala presented an opportunity to work with Michele on a whole new level, a process that began with first receiving and reviewing early sketches.

“It's just really interesting to decide which of these iterations of me that they have envisioned do I want to step into for this. After I chose my favorite dress that [Alessandro] came up with, I love to dive into a little bit of research about what possibly could have inspired this modern take on a historic look, seeing where I want to pull inspiration from, for hair and makeup, and how I want to present myself in this look based on this inspiration that has already been envisioned by the design team over at Gucci,” she says.
