Jeremy Strong Has No Interest in a Kendall Roy ‘Succession’ Spinoff

Jeremy Strong Has No Interest in a Kendall Roy Succession Spinoff
'Sucession' star Jeremy Strong does not want a Kendall Roy spinoff, saying his character's struggles took a lot out of him during the series.

Rumors of a Succession spinoff have been squashed, at least according to Jeremy Strong.

The 45-year-old actor, who played Kendall Roy on the award-winning HBO series, isn’t intrigued by the thought of revisiting the show—or reprising his role. In fact, he said going method for the tortured son “fucked me up” in a recent interview with The Sunday Times.

In 2022, Strong took home the Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for his portrayal of Kendall, and Succession as a whole racked up a whopping 19 awards and 75 Primetime Emmy Award nominations in its five-year run. The critically acclaimed show followed patriarch Logan Roy, owner of global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo. When the media mogul’s health is called into question in season one, his four children begin battling it out for control of the company.

“That show was an incalculable gift,” Strong told The Times. “The material a banquet. So I miss that. But Kendall’s struggle was difficult to carry for seven years. And there’s just so much more I want to do.”

When he was asked about the likelihood of ever reconnecting with his character, Strong unsurprisingly took a firm stance against the idea of a potential Kendall spin-off. “It’s not something I have any wish to do any longer. I’m aware it is one of the main chapters of my life, but I don’t miss it,” he said.

The Broadway actor made headlines back in 2021 when he admitted to taking on immersive acting methods for the role. In response to the profile, Cox expressed concern over the ways his on-screen son would often stay in character on set. “The result Jeremy gets is always pretty tremendous,” Cox told Town & Country at the time. “I just worry about what he does to himself. I worry about the crises that he puts himself through in order to prepare.”

Currently, Strong stars opposite Sebastian Stan in The Apprentice, a controversial new biopic about Donald Trump. Not to be confused with his previous role, Strong fully dedicated himself to playing Trump’s late lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn. He told NPR he had to do some digging through Cohn’s old writings to get into the unlikable character without making any snap judgments about the notorious fixer. “You have to really check that at the door as an actor,” he says. “It’s an empathic practice . . . I’m simply trying to inhabit him in a fully dimensional way.”
