Who is Lindsey Stirling? Meet the 'hip-hop violinist' who's performing at Packers Thanksgiving halftime show

The Green Bay Packers are slated to host Thanksgiving football at Lambeau Field for just the second time since 1927. 

The Packers will face off against the Miami Dolphins as the NFL's choice for the 8:20pm ET game in a playoff battle that could play a key role in deciding the wild-card winners for both conferences.

But it's not just the game that falls under the responsibilities of hosting duties. The Packers also had the honor of selecting the halftime entertainment for the nighttime showdown. 

Halftime shows have become a staple of Thanksgiving games with the Dallas Cowboys rolling out country music star Lainey Wilson this year and the Detroit Lions opting for alt-country artist Shaboozy.

But Green Bay has steered clear of the country genre - and mainstream music altogether - selecting Lindsey Stirling to headline the halftime entertainment at Lambeau Field. 

Stirling is a self-proclaimed 'hip-hop violinist' - a huge change-up from Dolly Parton's performance in a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader's uniform at AT&T Stadium last year.

The Packers have selected violinist Lindsey Stirling to headline the halftime entertainment 

The 38-year-old, who the Packers credited for her 'genre-bending virtuosity,' is known for her talent of mixing electronic music, violin playing and dancing - that has cut through the deluge of online content and made her stand out.

She began posting videos of her unique performances to YouTube in 2007, which sealed her a ticket to America's Got Talent. 

Stirling made it to the quarterfinals of the talent show before being booted off in 2010. As she was axed, she was bluntly told that the world 'didn't need an electronic violinist'.

However, the musician has gone on to make the judges eat their words, becoming wildly successful on YouTube and earning herself record deals and world tours. 

Stirling has amassed a massive presence on YouTube, with 14.2 million subscribers and more than 4.1 billion views on her 418 videos.

In 2016, she was the platform's highest earning female star, ranked third overall, making an incredible $6million per year from the videos she has uploaded.

And her self-made fame has continued throughout her 17-year career, releasing seven albums, embarking on multiple tours as well as working the festival circuit. 

Her debut album was nominated for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards for Top Dance/Electronic Albums. Stirling's second album Shatter Me won Top Dance/Electronic Album at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.

It's a change-up from Dolly Parton's performance in a Cowboys Cheerleader's uniform last year

She was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for music in 2015, telling the outlet: 'I was told I was too far outside the box from what was marketable.

'The same reason I was told I would fail was the reason why I succeeded. It was different and intriguing.

'Gatekeepers are being taken out of the equation, allowing unique art to come to the forefront that never would have been possible [before].'

She has gained notoriety for her high-energy, choreographed performances and covers of songs such as Imagine Dragons' hit song 'Radioactive,' which she performed with Pentatonix.

More recently, she has toured the US throughout 2024 as part of her festive-themed tour, 'Snow Waltz,' which has captured audiences with her renditions of holiday classics 'Sleigh Ride' and Carol of the Bells. 

In summer, Team USA gymnast Suni Lee used her song 'Eye of the Untold Her' for her floor routine, which earned her bronze in the women's All-Around competition.
