The world’s most powerful mass-produced Ford Mustang right now has managed to lap up the Nürburgring in less than seven minutes, setting a historical record.

Piloted by Dirk Mueller of Multimatic Motorsports, the car completed the 20.6-kilometer (12.8-mile) track in 6 minutes 57.685 seconds, officially becoming America’s first car on the Nordschleife to achieve a result as good as this. Co-designed with Multimatic, it brought a supercharged V8 to the track with 826 PS (815 hp / 608 kW) and a preselector DCT.

No U.S.-made vehicle had managed a sub-7-second time before. Things look very different for the European segment of the market, though. For instance, the Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS has a lap time that’s 2.5 seconds better – and it’s by far not the best North Loop performer.
