Women's World Cup 2027 Set to Begin on June 24 in Brazil
The highly anticipated 2027 Women's World Cup is gearing up to kick off in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, as announced by FIFA on Tuesday, December 10.
This edition marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first time the women's global championship is hosted in South America, featuring 32 teams vying for glory. The allocation of slots for the participating confederations remains consistent with the 2023 tournament, with UEFA set to send 11 teams directly into battle.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will secure six spots, while the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and North America's CONCACAF are each given four allocations. Additionally, South America's CONMEBOL will be represented by three teams, and Oceania's OFC will have one direct entry.
Three additional spots will be contested through an exciting 10-team playoff tournament scheduled from November 2026 to February 2027, providing a fierce competition for those aiming to participate in this historic event.
Brazil, awarded the hosting rights back in May, will showcase this immense tournament across 10 to 12 venues, many of which were also utilized during the 2014 Men's World Cup.
"This historic tournament promises to have a profound impact not just in South America, but globally," stated FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In other exciting news, FIFA is expected to announce the hosts of the 2030 and 2034 Men's World Cups on Wednesday. The 2030 tournament will be a groundbreaking three-continent, six-nation bid led by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, while Saudi Arabia is set to host the 2034 edition. REUTERS
