Elton John Confirms Fans Can Expect More Music on Colbert
Elton John appeared on 'The Late Show' to discuss his documentary and to tease new music.

“The juices have never dried up," the musician said during an interview on the late-night show

Elton John stopped by The Late Show to discuss his documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late. During the lengthy conversation with host Stephen Colbert, the singer said fans can expect new music.

“You will be getting some more,” John confirmed. “The juices have never dried up. They never want to dry up because I’m always looking to create things. It’s just having the space now to do it on my own time. Of course there will be new Elton John music.”

John also discussed the documentary, directed by David Furnish and R.J. Cutler and now out on Disney+. Asked about the film’s title, John noted that it signifies, “Never too late to change your life. To make decisions that will make your life better.” He added that underneath all of his success, as depicted in the film, he was “incredibly unhappy.” When Colbert asked if John wanted to give his younger self advice, the singer replied, “Stay away from cocaine.”

He added, “I just wasted so much of my life so the most stupid things and then I got sober and made amends for it and I got a new life together and it was fantastic.”

Colbert later brought out Brandi Carlile to join John so the pair could talk about their collaborative song, “Never Too Late,” which was written for the film. John reflected on working with Carlile, as well as supporting many of the younger artists he admires, including Chappell Roan and the Linda Lindas. “These young artists have so much energy, they’re so good, and if I can help them in any way get a foot on a ladder, I will,” he noted.

Earlier this week, “Never Too Late” made the Oscars’ shortlist for Best Original Song. Carlile initially wrote the song after seeing an early cut of the documentary, and took influence from Bernie Taupin’s signature style. She and John co-wrote the final track, with Andrew Watt adding additional writing and production.
