Crystal Palace vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League result and ...
Follow live coverage after Crystal Palace faced Tottenham Hotspur today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.
The hosts had made a disappointing start to the new campaign and Oliver Glasner was coming under some pressure, despite last year’s excellent form to end the season. But this result will go some way to easing those concerns, as Palace beat Spurs 1-0 thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s strike, buried from the left side of the six-yard box after Eberechi Eze’s brilliant flick.
For Spurs it’s a missed opportunity to keep a recent consistent run going and move up into the top six, leaving Ange Postecoglou needing to answer more uncomfortable questions about his side’s inability to string results together. Follow all the reaction below.

Full-time at Selhurst Park as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first half finish earned Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner a first Premier League win of the season and condemned Tottenham to another defeat on the road. On the day the clocks went back, the Eagles moved forward and were deserving winners throughout the 90 minutes. Despite huffing and puffing for an equaliser in the second half, Spurs lacked cutting edge from an attacking point of view with an xG of 0.72 as the home side defended resolutely. Palace created the far better openings over the course of the game with an xG of 0.83 and on another day could have won by more goals. Next up for Glasner’s side is a trip to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup while Postecoglou’s men face a stern test at home against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the EFL Cup. Thanks for reading!

The half-time whistle blows at Selhurst Park as Palace head into the break 1-0 up thanks to Mateta’s finish. Meanwhile, Tottenham come into this London derby hoping to exacerbate Crystal Palace’s woes. Ange Postecoglou’s side have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions and head into today’s game in impressive form. Last weekend’s 4-1 thrashing over rivals West Ham was followed by a 1-0 victory over Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League. Consistency has been a worry for Spurs this season but the Lilywhites will fancy their chances against a Palace side bereft of confidence.

Hosts Crystal Palace come into this encounter against Tottenham aiming to end their dismal start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign. A nightmare start to the season continued for Palace on Monday night following a 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest. Oliver Glasner transformed the Eagles when he arrived at the end of last season, however, all that work has been undone after a woeful start to this season. The home side are still without a victory after eight games and currently occupy one of the three relegation places.
