The exclusion of Laapataa Ladies from the International Feature Film category at the 2025 Oscars has disappointed everyone. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently declared the shortlists for the best films category of the 97th Academy Awards wherein Kiran Rao’s film failed to secure a place. When asked about his opinion on the same, Sonu Sood, however, had a different take. For the actor, it is the love of the audience that matters the most, instead of the Oscars.
Sonu Sood was recently in Delhi to promote his song Hitman with Honey Singh for the upcoming film Fateh. During the press conference, the Bollywood actor shared his opinion on Laapataa Ladies and its failure to make a cut in the Oscars official shortlist. The actor said, “Real Oscar is the audience who shower their love on the film. What matters is to make a place in the hearts of people, awards just remain confined to the shelves." Interestingly, Guneet Monga’s Anuja has been shortlisted in the Best Live-Action Short Film category, keeping India’s hopes to bring the Oscars home alive this year.
