Kiran Rao BREAKS Silence On Laapataa Ladies' Oscar 2025 Exit, Shares Emotional Post

Kiran Rao has shared a reaction to Laapataa Ladies exiting the Oscars 2025 race.

Director Kiran Rao has reacted to Laapataa Ladies’ exit from the Oscars 2025 race. Laapataa Ladies was India’s official entry fromm India for the Oscars run. The Film Fedration of India had submitted the Kiran Rao film for Best Foreign Feature Film consideration. However, earlier this week, it was revealed that Laapataa Ladies did not shortlist for the category, ending its run at the awards show.

While Kiran has not commented on Laapataa Ladies’ Oscar race coming to an end, she shared a post thanking fans for the support along with a few emojis that sum up her reaction. “Thank you for your love and support," Laapataa Ladies’ post read. Kiran shared the post on her Instagram Stories with a teary-eyed emoji along with a heart and folded hands emoji.

Meanwhile, FFI jury member Jahnu Baruaa commented on Laapataa Ladies’ exit from the Oscar run. Jahnu told the Hindustan Times, “That is very uncalled for actually. Why should people say such things? It is very unfortunate. People should try to accept it as the jury’s decision. I have had many of my films go to many competitions, at some places they were awarded and at some places they failed to win. That doesn’t mean I should have a negative review of that process… We should be respectful towards the process."

When asked about Bollywood insiders mocking FFI, he said, “Well, they were not in the jury, that’s all". While Jahnu refused to comment on why Laapataa Ladies didn’t make the cut, he mentioned, “People need to understand that it was a democratic process that one has to go through. And the country needs to accept whatever the verdict is."

“The jury felt that the films which have gone to the Oscars in the last few years lacked Indian-ness. A film needs to represent the nation. We felt that Laapataa Ladies had all the right elements, and presented the social chaos we go through brilliantly," he said.
