'Flow' makes Oscars shortlist for best international feature film / Article
It is the first Latvian film to make it this far in the competition for best foreign language film at the Oscars.
"Flow" is also still in the running for the Best Animated Feature Film award - there is no shortlist in this category and five nominees will be chosen from all the works that have qualified, further shortening the odds on it winning an award.
"Flow" continues the Oscar race for the title of best international film on the same list as "I'm Still Here" (Brazil), "Universal Language" (Canada), "Waves" (Czech Republic), "The Girl with the Needle" (Denmark), "Emilia Pérez" (France), "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" (Germany), "Touch" (Iceland), "Kneecap" (Ireland), "Vermiglio" (Italy), "Armand" (Norway), "From Ground Zero" (Palestine), "Dahomey" (Senegal), "How to Make Millions before Grandma Dies" (Thailand) and "Santosh" (United Kingdom).
"I am extremely pleased that the members of the American Film Academy have voted the film "The Stream" into the top fifteen best international films. Being the only animated film in such strong competition, dominated by feature films, is a testament to the film's potential. I also greatly appreciate the support of Latvian viewers, who actively followed the film's success during the so-called awards season," said the film's director Gints Zilbalodis.
"Flow" has already collected countless awards at film festivals and awards ceremonies around the world, but to secure one of the famous golden statuettes of the Academy Awards is regarded as the pinnacle of movie-making by many.
The feature-length film "Flow" is an animation that tells the story of a cat who loses his home due to a flood and ends up in a small boat, where he is forced to cooperate with other animals in order to survive.
